Book and Movie Review of Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades #2) by E. L. James

Fifty Shades Darker is the second book in the series Fifty Shades.

I wrote a post on my discovery of this series and why I like it. Click here for that post.

Ana is barely scraping through her life as she mourns the loss of Christian. Her new job provides a distraction, but the person she wants the most is the one person she can't have.

José's show arrives and Christian offers to fly her to Portland so she can attend the opening. She accepts and finds herself faced with Christian wanting to renegotiate terms. He promises that there will be no rules and no punishments. Just a relationship like normal people have.

Ana accepts the new terms and embarks on a new life by Christian's side.

This book explores a lot more of who Christian is and why he is the way he is. He shares more of his past and allows Ana to speak with his therapist. In the first book, Christian was a complex character, but in this book, we are introduced to a screwed up, confused man who's only sure about one thing: he wants Ana and will do anything to be with her.

This is my favorite book in the series because it's the exploration of Christian and what it means to be part of his world, both the money and the parts of him that are so damaged.

Ana has her work cut out for her.

Again, the writing was good, the story was good, the pacing was great, the characters flew of the page, and her capturing of PTSD was excellent.

The movie was released in 2017.

This was also my favorite of the three movies. It's a better adaptation than the first one and I thought they did a good job with all three subplots. I was worried it would be too many subplots and they'd cut one out, but they kept all three.

The one thing they didn't keep that I wish they would have is Christian's therapist and Ana being able to see him. It explains a lot about Christian and makes him a deeper character.

Despite that, I still really liked the movie. It was considered one of the worst movies of 2017, but I enjoyed it.
