Review of Nantucket Blue (Nantucket #1) by Leila Howland

Nantucket Blue is the first book in the series Nantucket.

This was a fun, summer beach read. It was also an easy read, only taking two days.

Cricket Thompson is looking forward to a summer on Nantucket with her best freind, Jules Clayton, and the Clayton family. A summer that will make all her dreams come true.

Then tragedy strikes and separates Cricket and Jules. Cricket must find her own way to Nantucket if she wants the summer of her dreams, and winds up cleaning bathrooms to fund her summer instead of lounging in the Clayton summer home.

Her summer turns out to be not what she planned. Jules has changed into someone Cricket doesn't know anymore. She feels lost during the summer that was supposed to bring everything together.

To top it all off, the one thing that makes sense in her crazy world is when she's around the one guy who should be completely off limits. And the problem is she's completely falling for him.

The book was fun, but predictable in many ways. Grief does strange things to people, and Jules changing the way she did wasn't necessarily surprising. I knew who Cricket was going to end up falling for in chapter one from a very short scene with the guy and having a tiny bit of flirting pointed out.

Despite the predictability, it was a fun read. What drove the book for me was the main character. I liked Cricket's resourcefulness and her determination to get to Nantucket for her ultimate summer with or without the Clayton family. I liked her spirit and determination even when she just wanted to hide. She's a strong character and an admirable girl. She was fun to read about.

Balancing its predicability and likable main character, this book gets:
