Review of Wrangled and Tangled (Blacktop Cowboys #3) by Lorelei James
Wrangled and Tangled is book three in the Blacktop Cowboys series.
Rener Jackson and Tierney Pratt are constantly at odds. In order to get his dream resort, Renner had to borrow money from Tierney's father, and now she's at his resort as a new manager. Their passionate arguing soon turns to passion.
Janie Fitzhugh and Abe Lawson have been divorced for eight years. Yet when Janie moves back to town to work for Renner Jackson, they both discover the other has changed. Now Abe and Janie are finding what they'd been missing during their marriage no matter how much Janie insists their situation is temporary.
When I first read the blurb and discovered the book had two romance stories in it, I was wary that they'd both be less than great. I was mistaken.
Renner is charming with a hot temper and shy Tierney manages to dish it back. Their arguing made it obvious they would eventually fall for each other, and I looked forward to the fall. Both characters had pasts, though for me Tierney's was more compelling, and after they fell into each other's arms, they were still at odds. Their passionate arguing offset their passion in bed, and it was a delight to read.
Their story was detailed enough to be interesting, but not down to minute details that would make it tedious. The climax was well-written I thought, and the more dramatic of the two stories.
Abe made for a rugged, rough-around-the-edges, tough cowboy with a soft heart. Janie is his weakness and he's hers. She fought her renewed attraction more than he did, and kept distance between them when it was clear they were falling hard. It made me want to thump her many times.
While from past books I had a good picture of the Lawson ranch, I didn't get a good picture of the Split Rock Resort. That's unusual for Ms. James's work in my experience. Hopefully the next will be better.
