Review of Wild Man (Dream Man #2) by Kristen Ashley

Wild Man is the second book in the series Dream Man.

Tessa O'Hara meets the man of her dreams when he walks into her bakery and immediately asks her out. Four months later, Tess is head over heels in love. Then she discovers he's an undercover DEA agent investigating her possible involvement in her ex-husband's drug business.

To Tess, that mean the relationship is over. But Brock Lucas doesn't want to let go. He returns to win her back, this time as his real self. They fall deeper in love as both their exes threaten their happiness, one of them a drug lord determined to get what he wants—Tess.

Danger looms, and Brock has to be willing to let out his wild side to protect the woman he loves.

I was a bit disappointed by this book, the first time I've said that about Kristen Ashley, and this is my ninth book of hers.

The characters were fantastic. Tess was full of life, quirky, fun, and as sweet as her cupcakes. Brock was written well enough to make me feel like he was my dream man. I loved both of them and reading about their relationship.

Brock's family was crazy and full of life. Tess's friends were quirky and wild in a good way, and Tess makes friends with the women from the first book—Gwen, her two friends, and Elvira, Hawk's receptionist—in addition to her best friend Martha. An additional tie in with the first book was Brock bringing in Hawk and his commandos to help them when danger closed in.

The climax was a surprise to me, and the way it played out had me cheering.

Descriptions, as always with Kristen Ashley, were fantastic. I had a solid view of all the major locations in the book—Brock's apartment and condo, and Tess's house and bakery. Even the places only visited once were vivid. I knew what people looked like and could picture what was happening.

Dialog was great. A few dips into cheese, but it wasn't over the top.

My problem with the book was the first tense moment in a romantic suspense novel didn't occur until about 75% of the way through the book. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed what I read, but I was expecting suspense, and after the nonstop action of Mystery Man, the lack of action in this one was disappointing. It also wasn't nearly as funny as the first book.

Despite my disappointment, it was very well written, so it gets a higher rating than it would otherwise. I still recommend it, and I will continue to the next book.
