A Little Christmas Love
For this Christmas, I decided to make gifts. I made one for my husband, one each for my mom and stepdad, and a few for my sister and her family.
Making the gifts was fun, but I didn't give myself enough time to make everything and only finished a few days before Christmas. They then had to ship over 2,000 miles. Neither package was received until almost New Year's, but better late than never!
For my mom, I crocheted a pair of socks. We have the same size foot, so I knew how big to make her socks, and I found a beautiful self-striping sock yarn on the Michael's website that I thought she'd like. The yarn wound up even more gorgeous in person. When she told me she'd gotten the package, she sent me a photo of her feet up in front of the TV, her new socks on.
I crocheted my stepdad a scarf that he said he loved. I talked to him the day after they got the gifts and he said he was going to test out the scarf that day. Sure made me feel good.
My sister and her boyfriend are both LGBTQ+ in both gender identity and sexual preference. So, I made them Pride flag scarves. I don't care if they wear them all winter or just decorate with them. All I wanted to do was show them support.
My nephew got a rainbow scarf (his favorite color) and a Minecraft creeper. He's obsessed with Minecraft, so I made him a plushie. Apparently, he absolutely loves it!
Lastly, I made my husband a hat. The only thing I can make him that he'll wear is a hat, so I periodically make him a new hat. When he opened it, he immediately put it on and wore it most of the day—inside. It was adorable.
I didn't share photos of the gifts for my sister and her family because it would be obvious as they read my blog who the gifts were for. But my mom and stepdad's gifts I could post about without risk because they didn't know I was making them anything.
Everybody seemed to like their gifts, so I'm looking forward to possibly doing this again at some point. But next time, I will give myself far longer than three months to make the gifts!
