Review of Burn (Breathless #3) by Maya Banks

Burn is the third book in the Breathless trilogy.

Ash McIntyre on the surface seems like a relaxed, easygoing guy. In reality, he's intense with gray morals. In the spring, while Gabe plans his wedding and Jace is absorbed in his fiance, he wanders a park, feeling lonely. He spots a woman drawing and can't take his eyes off her. When he approaches, she flees but not before giving him her name.

He does a background check on Josie and assigns someone to keep an eye on her. When he discovers her in need and her current dominant not helping her, he swoops in to assist. He discovers she's broken things off with her dominant and uses his help to finagle a date out of her.

Soon, Ash discovers she's in danger and sweeps her off to his high-rise apartment. She is relieved and happy to accept him as her dominant and move in with him. He collars her, much to her delight.

Then she discovers a betrayal that could shake her feelings for him forever.

Warning: this novel contains a Dominant/submissive relationship that might be upsetting to some readers.

This was a fantastic conclusion to the trilogy. Ash was intense and dominating with Josie. While it was definitely more than necessary, it felt right for the characters. Josie enjoyed his domineering nature, and he enjoyed her free spirit. That's the important thing.

The novel has a Chekov's gun, so I knew what the climax would be because a Chekov's gun must go off. It turned out to not be quite the climax, but leading into it. It worked, and I enjoyed the way it played out. The ending was intense, and I was glued to my e-reader.

Overall, I loved it and the series. This trilogy is one I'll be tempted to buy in print to have in my collection.
