Review of Twice Tempted (Night Huntress Universe #10) by Jeaniene Frost

Twice Tempted is the second book in the Night Prince series and the tenth book in the Night Huntress Universe.

Leila seems to be losing her psychic powers, and her lover Vlad is distant, refusing to acknowledge his feelings for her. She doesn't want a loveless eternity with a cold lover even though she loves him deeply.

Soon, Leila finds herself back in the circus circuit only to find herself stalked by a killer. Torn between her love for Vlad and the affection of one of his knights who longs to be more than friends, she must discover who is attempting to kill her and why.

Early in the novel, I wanted to smack Vlad for refusing to admit his love and the cold, unfeeling way he treated Leila. I thought she was justified in her frustration and taking it out on him. Her return to Florida to find Marty was heartbreaking.

Now, her rescuer who fed her information about what was happening, Vlad's right hand man assigned to deliver her to Marty, was acting both suspiciously and valiantly. I wasn't sure what to believe, which was well-done on Ms. Frost's part. I wanted to believe him, and at the same time, I wanted to reject what he was saying. It made sense, but it also didn't. Like Leila, I was thrown and confused.

As the story progressed and the truth of what was happening came to light, I was both relieved and frustrated. The plot grew intense, both romantically and with the danger Leila found herself in. Vlad's role in the story was at times surprising and comforting.

For me, this was one of the better books in the Night Huntress Universe. The tension and conflict were amazingly written, and the way the romance storyline played out was surprising.

The further character development of Leila had me liking her even more, cheering her on, and wanting to hug her. Vlad is a very complex character who reveals little about himself to the people around him, and his actions toward the beginning were confusing and frustrating. Later in the novel, his actions showed his true feelings, and while he went about things oddly, he was clear in what he wanted and how he felt. The ins and outs of his relationship with Leila had me wanting to strangle him and delighted in turns.

I am so glad Ms. Frost decided to write a series about Vlad.

An excellent addition to the series.
