Review of Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress Universe #6) by Jeaniene Frost

Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the second novel in the Night Huntress World series and the sixth in the Night Huntress Universe.

Kira Graceling, a private investigator in Chicago, stumbles upon a shocking scene one night close to dawn. She finds a man being attacked by several others, and it's clear he's about to be killed. She launches herself into the fight to save the man.

The man is none other than Master vampire Mencheres who was astonished at the reckless bravery a human woman showed when she took on several ghouls to save his life.

He thanks her and attempts to mesmerize her into forgetting the incident only to discover she's one of a small percentage of humans to be immune to vampires' hypnotizing green gaze. While trying to figure out what to do, he keeps her at his home. As the days pass, they are increasingly drawn toward each other.

A war is brewing among the undead, and Mencheres is tightly involved. Kira finds herself thrust in the middle, and Mencheres has no choice but to protect her.

I loved this novel. Seeing another side of Mencheres was delightful. In past books, he seemed a brooding, even-tempered man with patience derived through the several millennia he'd lived. Learning the details of his identity and life were shocking to me, but also wonderful.

Kira, while ignorant of the world she was jumping into, showed a lot of bravery and perseverance, though it didn't end well for her human life. Mencheres had only one choice when it came to saving Kira, and it frustrated me that the vampires who'd captured her showed so little regard for the secrecy of the vampire world.

The plot really drew me in, and I loved the almost opposite natures of Kira and Mencheres. They complimented each other and made each other better. Kira was a kick-ass woman, and Mencheres a strong, powerful vampire. I cheered them every step of the way.

Another Night Huntress novel read in two days.
