Book Review of True Believer (Jeremy Marsh & Lexie Darnell #1) by Nicholas Sparks

True Believer is the first book in the series Jeremy Marsh & Lexie Darnell.

This novel is a classic opposites attract story with the additions of judging by stereotypes and misunderstanding each other.

Jeremy is the ultimate city boy from New York who can't stand the countryside and goes to a very small town in North Carolina for an opportunity at a story that will enhance his career as a journalist. He meets Lexie, the town librarian where he spends a lot of time doing research. He quickly becomes fascinated with her and she doesn't like him, but eventually starts to fall for him.

They are at odds over a lot of things, including her disdain of city life and his of small towns. She refuses to leave her grandmother and he hates the country. In order to be with her he has to decide whether to take a leap of faith and leave everything behind or lose her entirely.

True Believer is my least favorite of the Nicholas Sparks books I've read. The story is wonderful, but the attraction between Jeremy and Lexie wasn't very believable to me, more on her side than his.

There is a sequel to the book, At First Sight, which I have not read. They were both written in a relatively short period of time and it didn't surprise me when I found that out. The characters didn't feel very real especially in comparison with characters in his other books.
