Book Review: Of Poseidon (Syrena Legacy #1) by Anna Banks

Of Poseidon is the first book in the series Syrena Legacy.

Galen, a Syrena prince (mermaids to the lay person) has gone to land to investigate reports that a teenage girl can talk to fish, a rare and exceptional gift among the Syrena. He finds that Emma has no idea she can talk to fish, and has no idea that Syrena even exist. How can a girl who is not Syrena have a gift only Syrena can possess? To top it all off, they feel drawn to each other in a way only talked of in Syrena legends.

Emma is a riddle that Galen must solve before the rest of the Syrena find out about her.

The novel is a bestseller, which kind of surprised me, but with how well it drew me in despite being a mediocre story, it's understandable. The story was paced well and the premise was intriguing. The chemistry between the couple was well done. There were a few instances where I wanted more details, but for the most part the descriptions were good. The prose was absorbing, but without much depth.

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. Vacuous but absorbing, and a lot of fun with hot mermen and a fun plot.
