Review of Echoes at Dawn (KGI #5) by Maya Banks

Echoes at Dawn is the fifth book in the series KGI.

Grace Peterson is in danger, on the run, and her psychic connection with her sister Shea has been severed. She's alone, scared, and doesn't know where to go. She's under constant threat of discovery, and if that happens, the people who want to use her abilities will destroy her.

KGI assigns one of their toughest members to find and protect Grace, Rio. He puts all his resources into the task, but what he doesn't expect is the level of emotion and dedication he feels toward his charge.

Grace and Rio's attraction is unexpected but electric. They both have their secrets.

Those hunting Grace are fast closing in, and Rio must do all he can to protect the woman he loves.

I loved this book, as I have with all the KGI books. Maya Banks does romantic suspense well, though if you don't like the damsel in distress trope, don't pick up her books. Her specialty is a damsel in distress who winds up saving herself in the end.

My favorite part of this book was seeing the other half of the Peterson sisters. Grace was just a shadowy voice in Shea's mind for most of Whispers In the Dark, and now here she is fully fleshed out. I loved her compassion and empathy and the way she was always willing to sacrifice herself to help others.

Rio was always a secretive, mysterious character, and here we got to see him in his own space and open up to Grace about his secrets and his past. He was an interesting character, and I loved learning more about his life.

I felt the pacing was good. It vacillated between heart-pounding action and sweet moments making for a great roller coaster of a book. I loved every moment.

A great addition to the series that I read in two days.
