Review of In His Keeping (Slow Burn #2) by Maya Banks

In His Keeping is the second book in the Slow Burn series.

Arial has lived her life by rules with one goal—to keep her psychic abilities secret, no matter what. But when her life is threatened, she has no choice but to defend herself.

Almost immediately, an enemy makes itself known and is after more than just her life.

Ari turns to Devereaux Security for help, and Beau Devereaux takes her case.

As Ari discovers the depth of her gift, the danger rises. She discovers that there was a lot more to her secretive upbringing than she thought, and she begins to question everything she knows.

Through it all, Beau is standing by, his attraction to her blossoming until he'll do anything necessary to protect her.

I enjoyed this book better than Keep Me Safe. Ari was vulnerable and displayed a realistic variety of emotions while also growing as a person. I at turns identified with her and wished I was as strong as her, though I wouldn't want her psychic gift. She went to Beau for help, wanting him to save her. But in the end, it was very different.

The climax had me glued to my e-reader with eyes wide. I couldn't devour it fast enough.

The book left me with one massive impression: Ari is a total badass. Anyone who crosses her will be in a world of hurt.

I couldn't wait to read the rest of the series.
