Review of Naughty Words for Nice Writers by Cara Bristol

For many writers, one of the biggest struggles is word repeats. Using the same word over and over is not recommended because the reader will pick up on it and it may make the writing come across as boring even when it's not.

Sex scenes can be especially difficult because naming a body part several times produces a need for synonyms, but how many can there be for anatomy?

That's where Naughty Words for Nice Writers comes in. It contains lists of synonyms for every body part imaginable when writing sex for varying degrees of explicitness. It even contains guides to phases of sexual response, positions, sexual activities besides the act itself, and items found in a BDSM dungeon.

This book has everything needed to create variety in sex scenes, no matter how explicit.

I've found this book useful in writing sex scenes, though mine aren't deeply explicit. It was recommended to me by a fellow writer who noticed a lot of repeats within my scenes.

Much of the language used in romance novels I find a little cringey, and this book lists them all. Even so, there are plenty of synonyms I've used in my own writing. Just because I find some of the words cringeworthy doesn't mean they aren't valid. Most readers would not feel that way.

For anyone who wishes to write sex scenes to any depth of explicitness, this book is handy and helpful.
