Why We Love Horror

In this video, therapist Mikey Atkins dives into the studies and the body's natural processes that affect the ways horror movies are enjoyable. She also describes the reasons we may say "no thanks" to horror.

I personally fall into the camp of "no thanks" for two reasons she gives—a heightened sense of empathy and childhood trauma that makes me feel unsafe in the world. However, those things make me love true crime because even though these real criminals did horrible things, they got caught. They were either executed or will die in prison.

Whatever camp you fall into does not make you weird or wrong. People like what they like, and that's okay.
