Review of Hope Ignites (Hope #2) by Jaci Burton

Hope Ignites is the second book in the Hope series.

Logan McCormack lives an isolated life on the ranch he inherited from his father. His brothers, Luke and Reid, own a share, but Logan is happy running it. He prefers to live unattached and free from the entanglements of women.

Not one to turn down money, Logan agrees to allow a movie crew to film on his property. When he meets Desiree Jenkins, the lead actress, he's attracted but wary. Despite all attempts to push her away, she remains steady in her pursuit. He likes her honesty and forwardness, and lets himself fall into a passionate affair. But it's only sex and friendship.

Desiree longs for a quiet, settled life, though she loves her career. She's never felt settled, but life on Logan's ranch seems idyllic. She likes the openness and steadiness of the life—and of Logan. But pushing past his reluctance for a relationship turns into something that seems impossible.

For them to have a future, Logan must let go of the past.

This book was the stronger of the first two. The characters had more depth, and I could picture the locations better, though the descriptions were still somewhat lacking. I also thought the plot was stronger.

Logan and Desiree both had inner demons to fight, and while they took to them differently, I thought their methods of doing so suited them and their personalities. I thought them well matched despite how different their lives are.

The sex scenes weren't as tender as the first book, but the descriptions were still gentler than other erotica I've read. It's a pleasant change of pace to explore the softer side of the genre.

Overall, I think this novel is much stronger than the first Hope book.
