Review of The Burnt Toast B & B (Bluewater Bay #5) by Heidi Belleau and Rachel Haimowitz
The Burnt Toast B & B is the fifth book in the Bluewater Bay series.
After breaking his arm on set, stuntman Ginsberg gets the cheapest accomodations he can. The worst bed & breakfast in Bluewater Bay is run by Derrick, a logger stuck running his parents' inn after their deaths.
Having already decided to shut it down, Ginsberg's arrival means Derrick has to stay open. He decides to run the customer out by offering the worst service possible.
But the worse the service gets, the more potential Ginsberg sees and the more he tries to help get the inn back on its feet. While Derrick is surprised by Ginsberg's determination, he's even more surprised by the growing attraction between them.
This was my first time reading about a trans main character. I learned a lot as well as enjoying a sweet romance. Even better was the fact that Ginsberg was not a tragic character as so often happens. His life was on a good track, just a little hiccup with the break, but being a stuntman inherently comes with danger.
Watching Derrick find his way through falling for a trans man for the first time while learning what being male actually means was wonderful.
I learned a lot about being transgender, and for that I'm grateful. I'm also glad for representation for the trans community in a non-tragic character. I hope that the representation is accurate because so many are not.
Overall, it was lovely. A great installment in a wonderful series!
