Review of Cascade (River of Time #2) by Lisa T. Bergren
Cascade is the second book in the young adult Christian series River of Time.
With Gabi's life in danger, she and Lia have fled back to their own time to discover the time tunnel healed her. Upon explanation to their mother, she asks them to take her there.
When they arrive back in Marcello's time, they find his marriage pact broken and Romana Rossi is now engaged to Marcello's older brother, and Marcello is waiting for Gabi.
The three Ladies Berterrini discover that Gabi and Lia are now the stuff of legend, and their mother shows those loyal to both Firenzie and Siena where the She-Wolves get their strength.
The only thing missing is the man who left them behind eight months ago and left a hole in the family—the girls' father.
This book solidified for me the fact that Gabi and Lia were kick-ass heroines and positive examples of a strong young woman for teenage girls to read about.
The story showcased both Gabi's and Lia's personality and strength better because no one was feeling weak or alone. Having both Lia and her mother there gave Gabi strength to resist what came in the plot.
I also thought the plot was an excellent mix of medieval Tuscany, modern girl, and their reactions to each other. I would be interested to see what of history they changed in their efforts to aid those they love.
Overall, this book—and this series—is an excellent read for anyone looking for a good adventure with a strong heroine—or three.
