Book Review of Best of Teresa Wentzler: Fantasy Collection

This cross-stitch book, The Best of Teresa Wentzler: Fantasy Collection, is one I purchased in 2003 when I was still managing to express myself truthfully. I saw the cover and instantly fell in love. Then, as I looked through the other patterns, I wanted to make almost all of them.

The pattern on the cover is my favorite, the dragon curling around the castle, but among the other patterns are a unicorn looking in a cottage window, a pegasus in a field, Cinderella fleeing the castle, Rapunzel at her tower window, and a matching set of two women—one framed in images of the day, and the other of the night.

The patterns in the book were much too advanced for me, but I tried anyway. However, I also had zero patience for any project that took more than a few hours. I taught myself patience while knitting my first afghan.

Because of my impatience at the time, I had the dragon project in a bag partway finished for years and years. I spilled so many things on it, like coffee and red juice, and the stains on the white Aida fabric would not come out. It took me a decade to admit the whole thing was a loss.

However, I still have the book, and there are a few patterns in particular I want to stitch for myself, including the project on the cover—the dragon I tried to make. My skills at cross-stitching are more advanced now, so I hope to tackle it with less stress and more patience than before.

These designs are stunning. If I were more skilled than I am, I would tackle some of the more difficult projects. I have a few favorites, but I would first love to re-tackle the dragon on the cover.

Will I purchase more Teresa Wentzler patterns in the future? Absolutely. She has a second fantasy collection book that will be mine... eventually.
