WIP: Bloom Where You're Planted Sampler

This Work In Progress is a cross-stitch project I've been working on for about six months off and on. It's a Mary Engelbreit creation from her book Cross-Stitch for All Seasons. For my review, click here.

This project is titled "Bloom Where You're Planted," which is what it will say when it's done.

Above the woman watering her flowers will be another framed section with simply "BLOOM" inside it so the whole thing will say "bloom where you're planted." I've just barely started the bottom of the frame.

With all my struggles, I thought this project was fitting for me to make and hang up in my home as a reminder to work with what I've got.

Cross-stitch is a very slow craft. For example, the little section of green next to the bird above the window took me more than two hours. It takes a lot of patience to do this, especially a larger project like this one. Cross-stitch can be expensive, too. I've spent probably close to $50 on floss, the string I use to sew with, and I'm nowhere close to done. That doesn't even count the fabric, which was about $20. I already have most of the floss I'll use, but if there's a color I use a lot of, I'll have to get more. Each package of floss costs less than $1, but when you need 50-60 of them, it really adds up fast.

Unlike knitting and crochet, this craft holds a special place in my heart. My grandmother taught me how to cross-stitch when I was about ten years old. Whenever I cross-stitch, I think of her.
