Review of Hope Burns (Hope #3) by Jaci Burton
Hope Burns is the third book in the Hope series.
Molly Burnett has avoided coming home to Hope for over a decade, drifting from place to place every few months. But now her sister Emma is getting married, and she has to face the one man she never wanted to see again.
Carter Richards has a successful chain of garages in Hope and nearby Tulsa. He has kept women at a distance ever since he destroyed his relationship with the one woman he loved, Molly Burnett.
After her mother has an accident, Molly has to stay in Hope for a while to care for her. Carter sees this as an opportunity to start over. This time, he won't let her run. There is still a fire between them, and Carter wants to feed it to see what grows while they confront the past.
I was excited to discover this book was about Molly and Carter after the buildup over the first two books, the mysterious end to a supposedly solid relationship. The reason for their breakup was shocking, and I couldn't blame Molly for running.
This plot was not quite as strong as Hope Ignites, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The relationship between Molly and Carter was understandably tense, and I found that realistic. These two characters felt more real than Luke and Emma from Hope Flames, and that made them more interesting to read about.
The sex again was mild for the genre, and it's a nice change of pace. However, I've noticed that Ms. Burton uses several phrases over and over in her sex scenes. It has become slightly annoying, perhaps because I am a writer and aware of repeats like that as I write and critique.
I did enjoy this book, and will continue to read the series.
