Review of Colters' Gift (Colters' Legacy #5) by Maya Banks
Colters' Gift is the fifth and final book in the Colters' Legacy series.
Lauren Wilder has been embraced by the Colters after her brother Max brought her to Clyde. She no longer lives with him and his wife Callie, Holly Colter's daughter. Now, she has an apartment in Clyde and works at the local diner.
The two men Max hired to guard Lauren when she first left her ex have been hunting for the man who hurt her only to find that Lauren lied about his identity. Liam and Noah fell hard for Lauren while they guarded her and goaded her into taking care of herself. Now wanting answers from her, they go to Clyde. They not only confront her about Joel's true identity, but both declare their feelings for her and propose an arrangement like Holly and Lily have with their husbands.
The two men put Lauren before themselves and put their lives on the line for her when Joel decides Lauren has forgotten her place.
I enjoyed this book, though the subject matter was quite a bit darker than the previous books. Holly's past was much like Lauren's, though Holly's book wasn't nearly as dark. I struggled emotionally as I read the climax and almost had to put the book aside. The ending satisfied me and made up for the very dark climax.
The plot was strong, though the reason for the polygamous relationship was a little misguided—the relationship was proposed because neither Liam nor Noah wanted to step aside for the other so they proposed sharing her. That seemed a strange reason to engage in polygamy. But both men were relatable, and coming from a dark past myself, I identified with Lauren. I found the character development stronger than Colters' Lady and enjoyed it much better than both Colters' Daughter and Colters' Gift. It was a satisfying conclusion to the series.
I read the series in ebook format and am slowly purchasing it. This series prompted me to do much more exploration of Maya Banks's catalog, and there were more books I enjoyed. Reviews soon!
