Review of The Elite (The Selection #2) by Kiera Cass
The Elite is the second book in the series The Selection.
But now the competition is down to six girls. She may have Maxon's heart, but keeping him at a distance while she decides what to do about Aspen is pushing him into five other sets of arms who want him too.
If America doesn't decide what she wants quickly enough, her choice may be taken away. To make matters worse, the king has it out for America and wants her gone despite the fact that the nation loves America almost as much as Maxon does.
The stakes were upped in this book, both in the competition and the involvement of rebels. America starts to make her own political connections and discovers she has skills Maxon will be in need of.
Both characters developed a lot, and some of the other competition had some character growth. It was in this book that I took a stand between hoping she'd chose Aspen or Maxon (I was rooting for Maxon) and the fact that I did it at all shows how much the book pulled me in.
The only bit criticism I had of the book was that it ended much the same way the first book, with her narrowly missing being sent home, though both the reasons and circumstances were very different.
It was a good second installment and left me hungry for the third!
