Review of The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass
The One is the third book in the series The Selection.
The competition is now down to four girls, and now America knows exactly what she wants: Prince Maxon's heart. She's competing against one other girl who is in love with Maxon and two looking for political or social connections. The one who's in love with Maxon has a soft spot in his heart too, but he keeps trying to win America.
She keeps him at a distance even though she wants nothing more than to secure their relationship, but she finds it hard to let him in when he's having a relationship with three other girls. Arguments result and America makes some drastic mistakes, nearly getting her thrown out by the king. Again.
They're both determined, but when one last secret comes to light, America is in danger of losing everything.
It was a satisfying conclusion to the competition, though there are two more books and a handful of novellas. I was disappointed that yet again, America narrowly missed losing everything she'd worked for. It was like Ms. Cass didn't know how else to end the book. It was still a good ending and I was a happy reader.
